We had a doctor's appointment this afternoon, and we also got a 3D sonogram done. This is so cool - check it out:

Mug

OK, I swore I would never do it, but for the sake of posterity... here I am at 29 weeks.

Things are going pretty well... we had our first childbirth class on Wednesday, and it was surprisingly pretty interesting. We both expected it to suck, and to regret signing up for it, but we were pleasantly surprised. It's nice to know that I'm not the only person who is experiencing 5 bouts of severe leg cramps at night! I have no idea what it is about being pregnant that gives you horrible charlie horses, but that part totally sucks.

One of the beautiful things about summertime is that I can squeeze in a little garage saling action on Friday mornings, too! He he! There's a lady in Lawrence who is even nuttier about garage saling than I am. She pisses me off most of the time because it seems like she is always one step ahead of me on Saturday mornings. When I pull up to a garage sale, I really hate to see Junker Jo already leaving with some really cool piece of furniture or widget. Nonetheless, I have to respect her a little, because once or twice a year she puts on a pretty swell garage sale, with all the stuff I couldn't beat her to on Saturday mornings. She doesn't charge an arm and a leg like a lot of dealers would, and she generally has cool stuff. So, my pissed-offness is tempered by her good garage sale etiquette.

So, anyway, I went to Junker Jo's garage sale this mornng. She's having it tomorrow, too. The thought has occurred to me that tomorrow may be the best garage saling day of the year because JJ will be stuck at her house having a garage sale! Hah!!! I win for one Saturday! :-)

Issues.

This has been a pretty good summer to be preggers. It has not been remotely like the first summer we lived in Lawrence (surface of the sun), and it's been even rainier and cooler than last summer. I figured if this summer was going to be anything like that first summer, I would have to buy a kiddie pool and sit in it all summer long. I am sure the neighbors are glad that I have not yet had to buy a kiddie pool.

I am having issues, though. I'm finding that I can't really sit close to my desk anymore, and I'm having to reach a lot further to get to the keyboard. I need one of those desks with a belly cut-out! And it is officially difficult to put on my socks in the morning. Still no particularly weird cravings... pretty much the same foods taste fine to me as always. Although, you have no idea how incredible a margarita sounds these days. Or a gin and tonic. Or beer. Or a tall glass of sauvignon blanc. It's starting to slowly dawn on me that it's more than 9 months of no drinking - it's more like 12 - 15 when you account for nursing. It seems to me that a full-term baby should be able to handle the occasional double G&T or bottle of whiskey, but I guess that's why they don't let me write parenting books. :-)

You know what's strange? I've had probably three strangers approach me and tell me that I am going to have a girl. Weird! It's eerie that I haven't had any strangers approach me to tell me that I'm going to have a boy. Either there are a lot of psychic people floating around Lawrence, or there really is something to the old wive's tale about how you're carrying correlating to the baby's sex. I can't tell a difference in how people are carrying. They just look pregnant to me. I guess I'm just not psychic enough.

I am growing tired of people asking how far along I am. Almost inevitably, when I tell them I have 2 1/2 months left to go, they look taken aback, look at my enormous tummy, look at me, and say "Ooooh, you've got a long ways to go, and through the hot summer!" Thanks. I hadn't thought about that at all!

Green Blog Background

That's right - the background of this blog is now GREEN. This marks quite a departure from the boring white background of yore. No looking back.

Rainy Days

I am beginning to think that we should start building an arc. We have gotten deluged over the past couple of weeks with insane quantities of rain, hail, and tornado threats. There have been downed tree limbs almost every other day in our yard. Aaron and I spent a half hour in our basement last night, listening to the weather radio squawk away. Pretty much the same thing happened last weekend while Aaron was at Wakarusa, the big music fest held in Lawrence every year. I can just imagine 12,000 pissed-off, wet festival-goers shaking their fists at the hailing, tornado-ing, and raining skies. :-) Luckily, Aaron was able to drive the 2 miles home when the weather turned nasty, rather than having to brave the weather in a car, or even worse, tent.

Sigh. I wish the sun would come out.

The only good thing to come of all this wetness (other than not having to water flowers for 2 weeks) is that I had some motivation to get work done on the inside of the house for once. I got an itch to finally start working on our upstairs back room, which we use as kind of a combination office/hobby room/closet. It was a seriously ugly room - even though there are 13 windows (yep, 13) in it, I always felt a little claustrophobic there because of all the wood paneling and hideous brass-colored miniblinds. Yes, shiny, metallic miniblinds. We had talked about doing some major renovations in that room at some point, but recently decided we had more pressing projects (and a baby) to take care of first. Once we decided that, I started thinking how much better it would look in there with some paint and new window shades. So, while Aaron was at Waka last weekend, I did some serious painting.

I had decided not to go to Wakarusa this year, mainly because the bands weren't as good as they have been in previous years, and also because I don't really get along with hot weather very well anymore. Something about an extra XX lbs (ha ha - you thought I was going to tell you!!! Yeah, right!!!!) and a little person hanging out inside you make you want to avoid the Kansas heat. So, instead I decided to inhale a bunch of VOCs for a weekend. :-)

The room looks a ton better already. Aaron is going to paint the ceiling this weekend, provided that a tornado doesn't swing by and remove it for us first. I got a bunch of nice window shades that are not even remotely shiny. So, it will be a pleasant change from the weirdness of wood everywhere.
