Is it spring yet?

I am seriously sick of winter. Ugh. This has certainly been the most wintry winter we've experienced since moving to Lawrence - lots of snowy days, lots of cold, tons of ice everywhere. I am ready for some sunshine, 50 degree days, and daffodils and tulips. I'm beginning to feel like I've been cooped up in the house forever!

On the upside, I've finally hit the second trimester. :-) I'm at about 12 1/2 weeks, and that's reassuring. I'd been feeling pretty crappy in the night-time for the past month or so, but I think that's starting to dissipate a bit. It's fun to think about how much the little baby has been growing over the past few weeks. I think the baby is supposed to be almost 4 inches long by now! (It was less than an inch long when the ultrasound was taken at 9 1/2 weeks.)

Aaron and I actually heard the heartbeat during our last doctor's visit, and that was really cool. They use a doppler tool to amplify the sound. The little heart was beating so fast!!!!

Aaron and I both signed onto the dark side over the weekend. Yup, that's right - we both got BlackBerries. My old phone finally kicked the bucket over the weekend. And it stayed dead this time. They really are addictive, as it turns out. I'm having trouble stopping playing with mine.

First Baby Photo

Here's the first picture of the new little baby!
Getting the sonogram done was so cool... Aaron and I could see the baby wiggling and be-bopping around! The doctor said that everything looks good, and that we're now about 9 1/2 weeks along. The only crummy part of getting an ultrasound is that they make you guzzle 32 oz. of water an hour beforehand, and then you're not allowed to pee. Then they push on your gut with the little sonogram tool. So, that part is a little sucky, but totally worth it. :-)

You see that little "halo" over the baby's head? That's supposedly the yolk sac, which according to my hundreds of pregnancy books, is supposed to go away soon, as the placenta starts to take over. I think it's how the baby gets nutrients before the placenta shows up.

So, the theoretical due date is September 5th, 2008. Mark your calendars!
