It seems that it's been a while since I've posted anything other than photographs! The fall semester is winding down here at KU; one more day of classes, and then finals week. This has been an extremely busy semester for me. I need a few weeks to catch my breath.
It's snowing outside, and between the snow and the still bare Christmas tree sitting in our dining room, I'm starting to remember that it's almost Christmas. :-) We celebrated St. Nick's day on Sunday, and that always feels like the kick-off to the Christmas season for me. We visited a tree farm a few miles out of town on Saturday and brought home a beautiful tree - that still needs to be decorated. I'm thinking... maybe tonight we'll get at least the lights up. I adore hanging ornaments, but really hate putting up lights. Trees are so pokey! So, we're procrastinating.
Ceci is surprisingly uninterested in the gargantuan tree taking up space in the dining room. I suspect that might change when it is covered in lights and ornaments. I have a ton of soft felt ornaments, some that I've made and some that my mom made, and I guess we'll have to have a segregated tree. Soft and indestructible ornaments to a height of 2.5', and glass ornaments above. We'll see what survives the season!
We took Ceci to Children's last week for her second follow-up developmental visit. I'd say it went well, but Cecilia did not nap before the visit (I fully expected her to sleep the entire way to Kansas City, since she usually loves to sleep in the car) and she was not very cooperative. There was a set of stairs in the doctor's examining room, and she pretty much screamed unless we were letting her climb up and down the stairs. Ugh. The other "tests" required Ceci to cooperate a little more than she was willing to, so I am not sure what to expect when we get Dr. Turnbull's letter in the mail. It'll probably say - come back and try again. Your child was a real crank. Sigh.
On the upside, while Ceci still isn't walking, she is doing all sorts of awesome things. She wants to play constantly, and that makes me so happy. She's gotten so affectionate - she gives Aaron and I kisses, she wants hugs, and held in our laps. She motors all over the place with her signature "hitching" style of movement, and she thinks all sorts of mischief is absolutely hilarious. In fact, she laughs at herself more than any other kid I've seen. She's also become very opinionated and strong-willed, and has developed clear favorites within her toys. She has a light-up turtle that projects constellations on the ceiling, and instead of leaving it on the floor at night, she's taken to hugging it in her crib and staring directly into its lights until she falls asleep.
