Holy crap, it's cold
This is the harshest winter weather I can ever remember being part of. Sweet Moses, it is COLD and getting colder. We have well over two feet of snow on the ground, and the actual temperature has been very negative the last couple of nights (-6F last night, -10F Thursday night). A couple of days ago, we had wind gusts on the order of 30-40 mph, and the wind chill was utterly ridiculous (-30F or so).
It is mighty lovely, though... kind of like living inside a snow globe. The top 5 inches of snow is powder, and every time we get a big wind gust, it picks up huge swaths of snow and sends it swirling high. I was driving down one of the main Lawrence drags yesterday afternoon and almost pulled off the road just to watch the swirling snow because it was so beautiful. The snow drifts have all sorts of pretty patterns cut into them from the wind; in a lot of places they look more like sand dunes than piles of snow.

Old man winter is no fun.
Look at the forecast for Friday, January 8th - A low temperature of -12 deg.!?! The wind chill is supposed to be closer to -30 deg. I am dealing with the 24"+ of snow (and 5" more on the way), but that is COLD, folks! Yuck! Mother Nature seems to have forgotten that this is northeastern Kansas, not Alaska.
